Patrick Peter
Patrick Peter, born in 1966, is director of research at CNRS since 2002. He obtained his PhD in 1992 with Brandon Carter on the properties of superconducting topological defects. After two years in Steven Hawking’s DAMTP at the University of Cambridge, he joined his former laboratory at the observatory of Meudon, and joined IAP in 1999 where he headed the theory division until 2008.
Author, in collaboration with J.-P. Uzan, of a textbook on primordial cosmology, his research interests concentrate mainly on alternatives to the generally accepted inflationary paradigm, including topological defects and bouncing models, as well as formulations of quantum mechanics applicable to quantum cosmology.
