The background image depicts the large-scale cosmic web from Horizon-AGN with a soft transition between gas density (blue) and temperature (red) on the top-half side of the image and dark matter density (light-intensity trace density while blue-red colors is for the magnitude of the velocity field) on the bottom-half side.

The middle panel shows a zoomed-in view of the gas component within the large-scale box (taken from a simulation simulated at higher resolution). It illustrates that the large-scale most prominent filaments are composed of thinner small-scale filaments.
